Kite Surfing
In a nutshell
You on a board, in the sea on a windy day being dragged along by a giant kite!
Tell me more!
No need to bemoan the rubbish British weather anymore as you will be hoping for wind every weekend! The aim of kitesufing is to use your balance and skill on water and be pulled along the surface by the aid of a giant kite. Power kiting is a great entry to the sport, teaching you the basic skills you need whilst standing still – there are plenty of times ahead of you to fall over or get wet once you are on a moving platform!
The stuff you need
Get experts at a British kitesurfing approved school to teach you the basics so that you can use their equipment, learn safely and get braver at your own pace! Once you have decided that this is the sport for you, a wetsuit, helmet, kite, board, bar and lines, harness and buoyancy aid. The full kit can be quite pricey brand new so look for recommendations if you want to go down the second hand route.
Cool things you can do
Once you have learned the basics, you can progress to jumps and tricks in the water, mixing it up in shallow and deep, still or choppy waters. When that becomes old hat, you can move on to emerging sport kiteboating which gives you the opportunity to sit down in a small boat (less chance of falling over!), move onto dry land and go kitelandboarding using what looks like a giant skateboard, use a kitebuggy for a three wheeled thrill or snowkiting with skis or snowboard, the fun just goes on and on!
